Statement on the UN official announcement on Humanitarian Aid in Sudan

1 ) Ms. Clementine Nkweta-Salami, resident and humanitarian coordinator in Sudan, announced in her X account, 5 March 2024, a plan to deliver Humanitarian Aid to Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) controlled areas through controlled access points.

2 ) We, in SPLM-N believe that Humanitarian Aid should reach all needy and vulnerable people in all areas in Sudan without discrimination or selectivity.

3 ) The plan endorsed by the UN official practically restrict delivery of Humanitarian Aid to SAF controlled areas. It should be noted that people in other areas (including the liberated areas (SPLM-N controlled areas) are more in need of Humanitarian Aid even before the start of fighting in Khartoum); and it should be remarked that most of the host communities in these areas were internally displaced: Local NGOs reported that about 600,000 people in South Kordofan/Nuba Mountain and 50,000 people in Funj Region (still increasing) went back to SPLM-N controlled areas.

4 ) We call upon the UN officials to distance themselves from selective and discriminatory approaches.

5 ) We appeal to the Unite Nations and the international community to exert all possible efforts to facilitate the delivery of the Humanitarian Aid to all needy people in Sudan without discrimination or selectivity in time and place.

In conclusion: SPLM-N confirms that there is no time to lose but demands that all parties be fair in providing assistance to all needy people.
